Andy Ireland

Andrew Poysell "Andy" Ireland ( born August 23, 1930 in Cincinnati, Ohio ) is a former American politician. Between 1977 and 1993 he represented the state of Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Andy Ireland first attended private schools in his hometown of Cincinnati, and thereafter until 1948, the Phillips Academy in Andover (Massachusetts ). In the following years he studied until 1952 at Yale University, then to 1954. At Columbia University in New York City and finally to 1959 at Louisiana State University Ireland worked as a consultant and businessman and has worked in the banking industry since 1954. Until 1970, he held senior positions at various banks in Florida.

Politically Ireland was a member of the Democratic Party. From 1966 to 1968 he sat in the council of Winter Haven. In the congressional elections of 1976 he was in the eighth constituency of Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of James A. Haley on January 3, 1977. After seven elections he could pass in Congress until January 3, 1993 eight legislatures. Since 1983 he represented there as a successor of Louis A. Bafalis the tenth district of his state. On July 5, 1984 Ireland changed his party affiliation and became a member of the Republican Party. During his time as a congressman, he was also a delegate to the United Nations in 1981.

1992 renounced Ireland on a bid again. As a result, he retired from politics. Today he lives in Boca Grande.
