Birtlingen
Birtlingen is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate, which belongs to the municipality Bitburg -Land.
Geography
The place is in Nimstal in the western Eifel, immediately southwest of the county town of Bitburg.
To Birtlingen includes the residential places Eppersborn, yard Peterstal and hunger castle.
The 293 -acre community area is used for agriculture to 66%, with 26% is a relatively small proportion of forest existed (as of 2011 ).
History
The first documentary mention as " Berzelingen " took place in 893 Prüm land register.
The place belonged to the late 18th century to the provost Bitburg, which was a part of the Duchy of Luxembourg. In 1794, French revolutionary troops had the Austrian Netherlands, to which the region was occupied at that time. Following the acquisition of the French administrative structures (1795 ) Birtlingen belonged to the Mairie in the Canton Fair Rich Bitburg, which belonged administratively to the district Bitburg in the department of forests.
In the extreme north of the district is 1840, the homestead "Hunger castle " emerged.

Policy
Parish council
The local council in Birtlingen consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.
Coat of arms
Membership of the Luxembourg provost Bitburg is symbolized by the Provost Siegel borrowed nail pointed crosses in chief. Bow and arrow stand for the St. Sebastian as a local patron.

Economy and infrastructure
Birtlingen is an agricultural municipality today. Many residents are employed in the nearby district town of Bitburg. Since 1971, when nine farms were counted, the agricultural area of 309 ha has decreased to 217 hectares, cultivated by now three farms (2007).
Federal highway 257 ( Bitburg- Echternach ) runs approximately 1km east of Birtlingen. The nearest links to the motorway 60 is approximately 10 km away.
