Charles Poletti

Charles Poletti ( born July 2, 1903 in Barre, Washington County, Vermont; † August 8, 2002 in Marco, Florida ) is an American politician and in December 1942 was Governor of the State of New York.

Early years

Charles Poletti studied until 1928 at Harvard University, among others, Jura. Later he continued his studies abroad at the Universities of Rome and Madrid. After his return to the United States, he began a successful legal career. Among other things, he was one of the legal adviser of Governor Herbert H. Lehman and a power company. Between 1937 and 1938, Poletti Judge at New York State Supreme Court.

Political career

Poletti was a member of the Democratic Party. From 1939 to 1942 he was vice- governor of New York. Following the resignation of Governor Lehman on December 3, 1942, he had to finish the remainder of the term until 31 December 1942. In these three weeks, some social laws of the legislature were enacted. Shortly before taking office, a bid again failed to Lieutenant Governor. Between January and March 1943 Poletti worked for Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson. From 1943 to 1945 he was a colonel in the U.S. Army. In this capacity, he was stationed in Italy. From 1960 to 1965, Poletti Vice President of the World Fair in New York. Otherwise, he worked as a lawyer. The in 2002, died at the age of 99 years politicians was married twice and had three children.
