Chemaudin

Chemaudin is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Chemaudin is located on 274 m, about 10 km west of the city of Besançon (air line). The village stretches along the edge of a hill in the gently undulating countryside between the rivers of Doubs in the south and Ognon ( in the north).

The area of ​​7.30 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the north Doubstals. Is the area Bounded by different roads. The north by the A36 motorway, on the east by the Shuttle D67 and on the south by the main road N73, which runs from Besancon to Dole The main part of the area is occupied by a plane which is composed partly of arable and meadow land, in the South especially with forest ( Bois d' Essart - dédier ). To the northwest the municipality area extends into the gently undulating countryside between Doubs and Ognon. On the watershed between the two rivers is achieved with 310 m the highest elevation of Chemaudin. The northern section is drained by the Chevrey north to the Doubs.

Neighboring communities of Chemaudin are Vaux- les- Prés in the north, Franois the east, Grand Fontaine in the south and Dannemarie -sur- Crète in the West.

History

Several findings indicate that the municipality of Chemaudin was already inhabited during the Bronze Age. First mentioned is the place in the 12th century under the name Chemadein. Over time, the spelling changed over Chemadin (13th century), and Chimadain Chamadain ( 14th century), Cheauldain (15th century) and Chimaudin ( 1664) to today's place names, which is attested since the 18th century.

In the Middle Ages belonged to the cathedral chapter Chemaudin Saint- Étienne in Besançon. In addition, also had the Lords of Mont Ferrand rich land in the village. During the Thirty Years' War Chemaudin was strongly affected. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

With the creation of an industrial zone in 1975, the development of the suburb of Besançon began. Since 1 January 2001 Chemaudin part with 57 other municipalities for municipal association Communauté d' agglomération du Grand Besançon.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Alban was inaugurated in 1737. It has a unique for the region porch with steeple. Inside is a designed by Nicolas Nicole Altarpiece (1750 ). In the old town several farmhouses in the traditional style of the Franche -Comté are from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Population

With 1441 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Chemaudin one of the smaller communities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area of ​​320-380 people, a striking population growth was recorded since the early 1960s. Since then, the population has more than tripled.

Economy and infrastructure

The well into the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry character, the village has developed since the mid-1970s due to its good location at an industrial and commercial area. In the industrial and commercial zones along the main roads, around 25 companies have settled to this day. The major industries include the manufacture of gas springs and seals, the transport industry, a printing company and a logistics center of Ecospace. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the agglomeration Besançon their work.

The village has good transport developed. It is located near the main road D67, which runs from Besancon to Gray. The nearest links to the A36 motorway, which runs through the municipality, is located at a distance of about 3 km. Further road links exist with Dannemarie -sur- Crète, Villers- Buzon and Franois.
