Claude L'Engle

Claude L' Engle (* October 19, 1868 in Jacksonville, Florida; † November 6, 1919 ) was an American politician. Between 1913 and 1915 he represented the state of Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Claude L' Engle attended the public schools of his home including Duval High School. After that he worked in the commercial and then as a journalist. In his home he edited the weekly " Dixie". Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1912 L'Engle was in the then newly created fourth electoral district of Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1913. Since he was not nominated by his party for re-election in 1914, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1915. During this time, the 16th and the 17th Amendment to the Constitution were adopted.

After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives L' Engle again worked as a journalist. He died on November 6, 1919 in his hometown of Jacksonville, where he was also buried.
