Cole County, Missouri

The Cole County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. In 2010, the County had 75 990 inhabitants and a population density of 74.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Jefferson City, which was named after Thomas Jefferson.

Geography

The County is located just north of the geographical center of Missouri on the north bank of the Missouri River. It has an area of 1034 square kilometers, of which 20 square kilometers are water surface. At the Cole County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Cole County was formed on November 16, 1820 from parts of Cooper County. It was named after Captain Stephen Cole, an early pioneer in this area.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Cole County 75 990 people in 29,111 households. The population density was 74.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 29,111 households lived statistically 2.39 per person.

The racial the population was composed of 85.1 percent white, 11.5 percent African American, 0.4 percent Native American, 1.3 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.7 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 2.5 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

23.3 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 64.2 percent were between 18 and 64 and 12.5 percent were 65 years or older. 49.5 percent of the population was female.

The median income for a household was $ 53,877. The per capita income was $ 25,935. 9.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
