The Córdoba (Spanish: Aeropuerto de Córdoba) Airport is a commercial airport in the province of Córdoba ( Spain ) in the south of the Iberian Peninsula. It is located about 6 km southwest of the city of Cordoba in Andalusia.

History

Today's airport is the second after the Aeródromo de Turruñuelos, whose origins can be traced back to the year 1910, as one a Fiesta de la Aviación celebrated in May this year. It was located west of the city on the road to Casilla del Aire, however, a continuous flight operations began in the 1930s. The airfield was used by the military during the Spanish Civil War, among other things, by the German Condor Legion.

In the 1950s, the construction of today's airport, which was inaugurated on May 25 began in 1958. However, the first flight to Madrid took Aviaco on until November of this year. Initially came with a de Havilland Heron used, which was later replaced by Douglas DC-3. The economic success of the compound remained modest. Later Fokker F -27 and de Havilland Twin Otter were used before the line was discontinued in 1980.

In the same year began an expansion of the terminal and 1995, the railways and apron areas were expanded. Air Condal operated in these years weekly Palma de Mallorca. Since 2002, there are plans to double the start and runway to a length of 2500 almost, but this plan was not implemented so far.

Importance

The airport is only significant for the Spanish domestic air traffic from Air Cónsul and Flysur to Vigo, Barcelona and Bilbao. Most visitors Córdoba use both approximately 140 km away from Malaga and Seville airports. The Granada-Jaén Airport is also an alternative. In the passenger statistics of all Spanish Airports Are 2008 for the Airport Cordoba only 22 268 passengers listed. Approach

By car, coming from the Sevilla 145 km away in the west via the Autovia de Andalucia A-4 and from Malaga in the south via Autovia de Málaga A- 45 for Cordoba airport. The drive to Granada about 210 km away to the southeast on the A- 45 and A-92 takes about 2.5 hours.
