Creveney

Creveney is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Creveney situated at an altitude of 275 m above sea level, 1.5 km southeast of Saulx and about 12 km northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, to the east of the basin of Saulx, in a valley at the source of Ruisseau de Bognon.

The area of ​​2.44 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the pelvic region of Saulx. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of Creveney in which the Ruisseau de Bognon springs. It ensures the drainage west to Durgeon. To the east runs a hill to Talniederung the Ruisseau de Châteney over (tributary of Colombine ), which marks the eastern boundary for a short distance. The agricultural depression of Creveney is flanked to the south of the forest heights of Grand Bois and Bois Charmont. With 331 m is achieved in the Bois Charmont the highest elevation of Creveney. In geological- tectonic terms, the terrain consists of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ).

Neighboring communities of Creveney are Saulx in the west and north, the east, and Châtenois Colombotte in the south.

History

Finds of gold and silver coins in the Grand Bois and on the hallway Le Candal indicate an early inspection and settlement of the area. Is first mentioned Creveney in 1187 under the name Crevenie. The place name probably derives from the Gaulish personal name Cravennus. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had the Lords of Saulx and later those of Châtenois held. The monastery had also Bithaine land and rights in Creveney. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Between 1929 and 1934, bituminous shale was mined at Creveney and recovered oil. Today Creveney is a member of the 17 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Pays de Saulx.

At the entrance stands a Calvaire, which was built in 1879.

Population

With 53 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Creveney one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1891 135 people were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the mid- 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Creveney is still a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Some employed persons are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and in the agglomeration Vesoul.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Saulx after Velleminfroy. Creveney had a station on the railway line Paris -Mulhouse. This was closed at the end of the 20th century.
