Genevrey

Genevrey is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Genevrey situated at an altitude of 315 m above sea level, 5 km north-east of Saulx and about 17 km northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, northeast of the basin of Saulx, on a slightly inclined to the west slope in the headwaters of Durgeon, west of the heights of Mont d' Ahie.

The area of ​​11.97 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the pelvic region of Saulx. The main part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which is on average 300 m and is used mainly for agricultural purposes. It is drained by the Durgeon to the west. To the east the land rises on the elongated in north-south direction ridge of the Grand Bois de Genevrey. On this wooded height is achieved with 453 m the highest elevation of Genevrey. To the north passes over a saddle to the plane of Luxeuil. In the north, the municipality's area extends into the Bois la Derrière (360 m). The southern boundary runs in the region of the sources of Ruisseau de Châteney (tributary of Colombine ).

In geological- tectonic terms, the area is dissected by several running in a north-south direction fault lines. The terrain consists of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). In some places, is also evident sandstone and limestone from the Triassic.

To Genevrey heard the settlement Bellevue (316 m) on the plateau north of the lowlands of Durgeon. Neighboring communities of Genevrey are Brotte -lès- Luxeuil and Betoncourt -lès- Brotte in the north, Ailloncourt, Dambenoît -lès -Colombe and Adelans -et- le -Val -de- Bithaine in the east, Châteney and Saulx in the south and Servigney in the West.

History

Finds from the Gallo- Roman period are evidence of a very early settlement of the area. Is first mentioned in the year Genevrey 1294th In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Faucogney. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. In 1808 Genevrey was incorporated into Servigney. Already in 1832 it received its municipal autonomy back. Attractions

The church of Saint - Valbert with a tower in the Imperial style, was built in the 18th century. Population
