Velleminfroy

Velleminfroy is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Velleminfroy situated at an altitude of 295 m above sea level, 5 km southeast of Saulx and about 13 km east-northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, in a hollow south of the Valley of Colombine.

The area of ​​6.02 km ² municipal area comprises a section in the rolling countryside between the basin of Vesoul in the west and the level of Lure in the east. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of Velleminfroy, which is drained by the village stream north to Colombine. The Colombine, a tributary of the Durgeon, here and marks the northern border. Your Talniederung is on average 280 m and has a maximum width of one kilometer. Agricultural land use predominates here. At the edge of the valley there is a mineral spring. North of the valley extends the area in the Grove of the Bois de Vaugirard.

Flanked the trough of Velleminfroy of partially wooded, lined partly with meadows hills: to the east of the Bois de la Bougère (322 m), in the south of the Bois de Chassaigne (332 m ) and the Haut de Theux (366 m) and in the West of the Valdoie, on the 379 m, the highest elevation of Velleminfroy is achieved. With a narrow tip, the municipality's area extends southward to the valley of the Ruisseau de la Prairie in the catchment of Ognon. In geological- tectonic terms, the terrain consists of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). In some places, also limestone comes to light from the Middle Triassic.

Neighboring communities of Velleminfroy are Châtenois in the north, La Creuse and Pomoy in the east, the south and Calmoutier Colombotte in the West.

History

Remains of a Gallo-Roman traffic route point to an early settlement of the area. Is first mentioned Velleminfroy already in 815 under the name of Villa Manfredi. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government has held the monastery of Luxeuil. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Velleminfroy is a member of the 17 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Pays de Saulx.

Attractions

The village church of Velleminfroy was rebuilt in 1847 and has a rich carved altar and a baptismal font from the 18th century and several grave slabs. From the 15th century the Calvaire originates in the upper part of the village.

Population

With 289 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Velleminfroy one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 413 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the early 1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Velleminfroy was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and agglomeration in Vesoul.

The village has good transport links. It is located near the main road N19, which runs from Vesoul to Belfort. Further road links exist with Saulx and La Creuse.
