SC Enschede (1956-1965) FC Twente Enschede (1965-2008)

The Stadio Het Diekman was from 1965 to 1998 the football stadium of the Dutch football club FC Twente Enschede. After that, the club moved to the then Arke Stadium.

History

In 1953, the stadium in Enschede was built with a financial outlay of three million guilders. The stadium was first used by the Sport Club Enschede. The stadium was opened on August 8, 1956 with a match against Preußen Münster before 22,000 spectators.

1965 merged the Sports Club Enschede and the Enschedese Boys to FC Twente, who used the stadium in subsequent years. On August 22, 1998, the last match of FC Twente was carried out in the stadium against SC Heerenveen.

Capacity

At the opening of the stadium had a capacity of 5,500 seats and 19,000 standing places. Due to the stringent regulations of UEFA and the Dutch Association of the capacity to initially 18,000 and later 13,500 spectators was limited.
