Divnogorsk

Divnogorsk (Russian Дивногорск ) is a town with 28 272 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in Krasnoyarsk (Russia, Siberian federal district ).

Geography

The city is located about 34 km west of the regional capital of Krasnoyarsk in the middle of a taiga landscape. At this point the mana flows into the Yenisei. This inflow is 500 km long and very popular for rafting. Due to its location at the foothills of the Eastern Sayan Mountains Divnogorsk received its name, which literally means as much as "the city next to the beautiful mountains ."

The Divnogorsk nearest towns are next to Krasnoyarsk 64 km east location Sosnovoborsk and the closed city Zheleznogorsk 78 km north-east. Divnogorsk forms an urban district, which besides the actual city or the village Owsjanka and the six settlements Bakhta, Chmelniki, Manski, Slisnjowo, Ust- Mana and Verkhnaya Birjussa belong.

History

Divnogorsk was established in 1957 as a construction worker settlement for the construction of the Krasnoyarsk Reservoir. In the 19th and early 20th century there were at the site of the present city first a hermitage with a small boat landing stage on Yenisei, and later a children's home and forestry.

1963 Divnogorsk the city status was awarded, and four years later the hydropower plant, for the construction of the dam was formed, was put into operation. Full completion of the power plant was carried out in 1971.

Economy and Transport

Main operation of the city is still the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station, which in terms of production quantity, the second largest of its kind (according to the hydroelectric power station Volgograd) in Russia. Divnogorsk has additionally with various industries. These include wood processing, steel concrete production and the electrical industry.

Recently, Divnogorsk also developed as a tourist, which is due to the prevailing here favorable conditions for winter sports in particular. Near the town there are three ski slopes with ski lifts and a hotel. These slopes are particularly popular among the residents of the nearby city of Krasnoyarsk as wintry Naherholungsort.

Divnogorsk is located on the Russian highway M 54 and has a boat dock. With Krasnoyarsk city is connected by a railway line.

Attractions

Very few wooden buildings from the period have been preserved before the city's founding in Divnogorsk. At the former hermitage today still remembers a two-storey former church building, which is now used as an artist workshop. Near the town there are also several striking natural monuments, including the reserve Stolby with rock formations.
