Donald Carcieri

Donald L. "Don" Carcieri ( born December 16, 1942 in East Greenwich, Rhode Iceland ) is an American politician. Carcieri was 2003-2011 Governor of the State of Rhode Iceland. He belongs to the Republicans, where it is attributed to the moderate wing.

Life

Carcieri studied International Relations at Brown University in Providence. He was subsequently first mathematics teacher at a high school and later working in a managerial position, the Old Stone Bank and the management of the Cookson Group.

As governor

On 7 January 2003 Carcieri took over the office of the governor of Rhode Iceland, after he had previously prevailed in the elections with 54:45 percent of the vote against Democratic State Senator Myrth York. In 2006, with a share of 50.9 percent he managed just the re-election against his Deputy Governor Charles J. Fogarty. Carcieri ruled against a Democratic of the party in the ratio of 60:15 seats dominated House of Representatives, which led during his tenure a number of policy differences between the Governor and Parliament. In 2005, he vetoed the legalization of cannabis as a medicine, but this was overruled later.

4 January 2011 Carcieri different constitutionally from the office which he handed to the Independent Lincoln Chafee.
