Gaston Defferre

Gaston Paul Charles Defferre ( born September 14, 1910 in Marsillargues, Hérault; † 7 May 1986 as Marseille) was a French politician of the Socialist Party.

Biography

Defferre comes from a small middle-class Protestant family. In 1928 he settled in Dakar. After studying economics and law in Aix -en- Provence, he became a lawyer in 1931 the Bar Association of Marseille, in 1933, he joined the SFIO was supporters of the Popular Front and militant socialist.

In 1940 he was one of the first Socialist Resistance members in the created by Daniel Mayer Comité d'action Socialiste (CAS). Trivia

On April 21, 1967 contributed Defferre and the Gaullist deputy René Ribière in the park of a villa in Neuilly, near Paris, the last official duel in France with the Degenaus. Defferre had insulted as idiots during a meeting of the French National Assembly Ribière. Ribière had called it out to restore his honor in a duel.
