Guarcino
Guarcino is a municipality in the province of Frosinone in the Italian region Latium, located about 1644 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 85 km east of Rome and 23 km northwest of Frosinone.
Geography
Guarcino located in the Monti Ernici. It is a member of the Comunità Montana Monti Ernici.
The neighboring municipalities are Alatri, Filettino, Fiuggi, Morino (AQ ), Torre Cajetani, Trevi nel Lazio, Trivigliano and Vico nel Lazio.
History
Guarcino had since the 8th century BC, a fortified place of Hernici before it was conquered by the Romans and was incorporated under the name Varcenum into their empire. They built two large temples for Mars and Apollo.
The connection to Rome remained close to the Middle Ages. Pope Boniface VIII was built in the 13th century a palace for his family.

Tourism
In the municipality, at 1800m, is the Campo Catino ski area, which is mainly visited by Romans. On the Campo Catino is also an astronomical observatory was built in 1986.
Specialty
The Prosciutto di Guarcino is a ham, which is exclusively produced from pork from the immediate surroundings to a traditional recipe. In July of each year, the Festa del Prosciutto place in Guarcino.
