Piglio
Piglio is a municipality in the province of Frosinone in the Italian region Lazio, 4652 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 63 km east from Rome and 38 km northwest of Frosinone.
Geography
Piglio lies on a spur of Mount Scalambra in a panoramic position between the valleys of the Sacco and the Aniene. It is a member of the Comunità Montana Monti Ernici.
The neighboring municipalities are Acuto, Anagni, Arcinazzo Romano, Fiuggi, Paliano, Serrone and Trevi nel Lazio.
History
Piglio was a settlement of Hernici possibly identical to the capitulum Hernicum reported the Strabo. 1088 the place was first mentioned as Castrum pileum. In the 11th century it belonged to the bishops of Anagni. 1347 appropriated to Cola di Rienzo the place. After his fall he came to the Colonna.
