Guardea

Guardea is a municipality with 1853 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Terni in the Umbria region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality covers 39 km ². It is located about 60 km south of Perugia and about 30 km west of Terni on the Tiber. The place is located in the climatic classification of Italian communities in the zone D, GR 2069 / G.

The districts include Cocciano, Le Case, Madonna del Porto Nuovo and Poggio -Casa Line.

The neighboring municipalities are Alviano, Amelia, Avigliano, Civitella d' Agliano (VT), and Montecastrilli Montecchio.

History

The name comes from the Italian Guardia ( Guard / Guard), which refers to the location on the lower Tiber Valley ( Teverina) refers. 1035 established refugees from the nearby Castello del Poggio Castle Marruto ( podium Guadejae ). The first mention in writing Guardea in 1154. During the 12th century, the ruling family of the Bashi Bashi was built from the still visible today Wacht (formerly Guardege, today Guardea Vecchia Castello Vecchio or called ). In the 13th century the city went to the ruler of Alviano, which lasted until 1581. In 1600, the family of Monaldeschi gained dominion over the place, but after the death of Paolo Monaldeschi dominion was divided. Poggio got to the family of Raimondi during Guardege after the marriage of Caterina Monaldeschi Della Cervara with Ludovico di Marsciano got to the family of Marsciano from Marsciano. The place came under the control of the Papal States and around 1860 with the Risorgimento, he was part of the state of Italy. The capital was moved in the early 17th century by Guardea Vecchia in the valley.

  • Castello del Poggio, castle in the village of Poggio, which began in the 11th century as a castle ( known as a podium Guadejae 1035 ) and this function held until the 15th century.

  • Chiesa di Sant'Egidio, church from the 13th century, which was enlarged in the years 1500 and 1690. Contains the Canvas Painting San Vito Sebastiano Ceccarini ( in the 18th century originated ) and Sant'Egidio by Tommaso Nasini ( in the 17th century originated ) and a fresco from 1574 (Madonna e Santi ).
  • Hermitage of Sant'Illuminata, ruins of a hermitage from the year 1007, here is the Grotta di San Francesco
