Lugnano in Teverina

Lugnano in Teverina is a municipality with 1547 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Terni in the Umbria region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality covers 30 km ². It is located about 60 km south of Perugia and about 25 km west of Terni in Teverinatal.

The neighboring municipalities are Alviano, Amelia, Attigliano and Graffignano (VT).

History

The area around Lugnano was already inhabited in Roman times, the Poggio Gramignano built there in the 1st century BC. The history of the present site date back to the year 1000, when the Count of Monte Marte ruled the place. Then the Bovaciani di Todi followed from Todi from 1147. According to brief other rulers followed the Orsini at the beginning of the 14th century, after which there was Tommaso di Alviano from Alviano 1370 with the favor of the Papal States. 1449, Pope Pius II reinforce the walls. Nevertheless, the city was captured in 1497 by Bartolomeo d' Alviano and 1502 by his brothers, Bernardino and Aloisio d' Alviano from the Ghibelline Alviano. Just six years later, declared the place his own statutes ( Statuto della Terra di Lugnano ).

  • L' Antiquarium, Antiquarium in the Palazzo Comunale, includes parts of the Roman Villa Poggio Gramignano.
  • Chiesa e Convento dei Cappuccini, 1579 resulting church and convent, which was used until 1928 by the Capuchins.
  • Chiesa e Convento di San Francesco, built in 1229 Church and Convent. The Campanile dates from the year 1680 the work contains Decollazione di San Giovanni Battista by Livio Agresti. (* 1508, † 1580), also known as Ritius or Ricciutello, Italian painter of the Renaissance and Mannerism.
  • Collegiate of Santa Maria Assunta, the main church of the village in the historic center of the 12th century. If the work contains Ss. (Formed ca.1482 ) Francesco and Sebastiano by Nicolò Alunno.
  • Palazzo Pennone, also called Palazzo Ridolfi Farnese, building from 1650.
  • Poggio Gramignano, also called Villa Rustica, Roman villa from the 1st century BC, inhabited until the 3rd century AD, was then used until the 5th century as a necropolis.
