Handewitt

Handewitt (Danish: Hanved ) is a municipality in the district of Schleswig -Flensburg, in Schleswig- Holstein.

The municipality was created in its current form on 1 March 2008 from the merger of the two communities Handewitt and Jarplund -Weding the same resolution Office Handewitt.

Geography

The Südschleswigscher community Handewitt located 7 km west of Flensburg directly on the border with Denmark. The municipality consists of the villages and settlements Ellund, Ellundfeld, Gottrupel (Danish Gottrupelle ), Handewitt, Handewitt colony Handewitt West, Handewittfeld ( Hanvedmark ) Haurup ( Havrup ), Hope, Hüllerup ( Hyllerup ) Jarplund ( Jaruplund ) Timmersiek ( Timmersig ), Unaften ( Ondaften ), Weding ( vedding, also Veding ) and Westerlund ( Vesterlund ). Handewitt is just outside the Handewitter forest.

History

Handewitt was the first time in 1231 as Hanaewith mentioned ( as a forest, in the forest of the Hani taps or interpreted ). Handewitt is located on Military Road, the Jutland crossed in a north-south direction, but this also led to numerous raids on the municipality.

The church, which is visible from afar on the Long Mountain, was built in the 13th century and 1883/84 renewed after a lightning strike in the Gothic Revival style. 1965 Charles created Crodel the tower window and a Crucifixion window for the Protestant church.

The district Handewitt colony was created in 1761, when King Frederick V of the Palatinate and Hesse, people settled in the village after his lands had been destroyed.

On the evening of March 11, 1946 on a farm in the district Gottrupel which there under the false name Franz Lang living, Rudolf Hoess, the commandant of Auschwitz concentration camp, was arrested by a British Special Forces.

The existing community until 2008 Handewitt was taken on March 24, 1974 by merging the municipalities Handewitt, Ellund, Gottrupel, Timmersiek, Haurup and Hüllerup.

The community Jarplund -Weding was taken on March 24, 1974 by the merger of the previously independent municipalities Jarplund and Weding.

Handewitt formed together with the community Jarplund -Weding the Office Handewitt.

Policy

Of the 22 seats in the municipal council, the CDU has been the local elections in 2013 six seats, the voter community KWG and the SSW have five seats, the SPD and Alliance 90/The Greens each have three seats. Citizens chief is Joachim Schmidt ( CDU).

Economy and infrastructure
