Jabonga, Agusan del Norte

Jabonga is a town in the province of Agusan del Norte on the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines.

Geography

The municipality is located in the north of the province of Agusan del Norte, on the coast of the Bay of Butuan and to the south shore of Lake Mainit. Jabonga bordered to the north and east by the province of Surigao del Norte and the municipality Kitcharao. In the South, boroughs Tubay and Santiago bordering Jabonga. Jabonga lies in the zone of air type II, the Philippine climate classification, with heavy rainfall and relatively low temperatures in the months of November to March and trockerem climate with higher average temperatures from June to September.

The township is in a geological fault zone of Jabonga Fault Line, without it being thus far come to damage caused by earthquakes.

History

1580 Jabonga was handed over by the King of Spain as encomienda of Don Agustin de Cepeda for fiduciary management. As encomiendero was incumbent on the duties of the religious and secular administration and residents of the encomienda to proselytize. The first written mention dates from 1583rd

In the 16th century Jabonga was on the site of Rio de Zampojar, now the Colorado River.

1622 Jabonga mission of the Augustinian Order. The mission station was under the supervision of the church in Butuan.

During the 18th century there were repeated raids of the Moros.

After the devastation caused by a typhoon in 1876, the church, and the whole place at today's higher ground was rebuilt.

In 1902 the rebels Surigaos, who had retired after Agusan attacked in Jabonga and Tubay of U.S. troops.

On 1 July 1921, Jabonga independent municipality.
