Jeff Fortenberry

Jeffrey Lane " Jeff" Fortenberry (* December 27, 1960 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana) is an American politician. Since 2005 he represents the first electoral district of the state of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jeff Fortenberry attended after elementary school and 1982, Louisiana State University, where he studied economics. Then he studied until 1986 at Georgetown University in Washington politics and finally at the Franciscan University of Steubenville (Ohio ) theology.

Politically, he is a member of the Republican Party. From 1997 to 2001 he was a member of the City Council of Lincoln, Nebraska, where he had since moved. In 2004, he was elected in the first district of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he represents his state since 3 January 2005. In the elections, even he had to prevail within his party against six competitors, before he won with 11% lead in the actual election to Democrat Matt Connealy. As a result, he was in each case confirmed in his position, most recently in 2008 with 70.4 percent of the vote against Max Yashirin.

Fortenberry is considered conservative and is a member of his faction within the Republican Study Committee. It consists, among others, for a ban on online poker and other games of chance on the internet. He is a member of the Committee on Agriculture, the Committee on the reform of the structure of government and the Foreign Affairs Committee and for some sub committees.

Jeff Fortenberry is married to Celeste Gregory, with whom he had five children. Privately, he still lives in Lincoln.
