Jewell County, Kansas

Jewell County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Mankato. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located north of Kansas, bordering Nebraska and has an area of ​​3791 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water surface. It borders in Kansas clockwise to the following counties: Republic County, Cloud County, Mitchell County, Osborne County and Smith County.

History

Jewell County was formed on 26 February 1887. It was named after Lewis R. Jewell, an officer in the American Civil War, who was mortally wounded at the Battle of Cane Hill, Arkansas.
