John B. Page

John Boardman Page (* February 25, 1826 in Rutland, Rutland County, Vermont, † October 24, 1885 ) was an American politician and 1867-1869 Governor of the State of Vermont.

Early years

John Page began at the age of 16 years to work as a cashier at the National Bank of Rutland. Over the years he worked his way up to the president of this bank. Page was also active in other business areas. He became president of the Rutland Railroad Company and Vice President of the Central Vermont Railroad. At the same time he was also a partner at the Brandon Manufacturing Company, which produced scales and measuring instruments. In addition, he was involved in various other companies.

Political rise

Between 1852 and 1854, was a deputy in the Page House of Representatives from Vermont. After the founding of the Republican Party mid-1850s he joined this. During the American Civil War, he was appointed by President Abraham Lincoln for Allotment Commissioner for Vermont.
