John R. Murdock

John Robert Murdock (* April 20, 1885 in Lewistown, Lewis County, Missouri, † 14 February 1972 in Phoenix, Arizona ) was an American politician. Between 1937 and 1953 he represented the first electoral district of the State of Arizona in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years and career

John Murdock attended the public schools of his home and then until 1912 the State Teacher 's College in Kirksville. Later he also studied at the University of Iowa, the University of Arizona and the University of California. Since 1904 he has worked in various positions in the teaching profession. He rose to become dean of the Arizona State Teacher 's College from simple teacher. This post he held from 1933 to 1937. He was also the author of several textbooks for the subjects of history and politics.

Political career

John Murdock was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1936, he was elected as a deputy of the State of Arizona in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington. After he was re-elected in subsequent years each, he was able to complete a total of eight legislative sessions in Congress between January 1937 and January 3, 1953 3. In the meantime, he was Chairman of the Committee on Memorials and member of the Committee on Irrigation and Reclamation and the Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs.

After he had not been confirmed in his office in the congressional elections of 1952, he retired to Scottsdale to retire back. John Murdock died in 1972 in Phoenix.
