Kirovo-Chepetsk

Kirovo - Tschepezk (Russian Кирово - Чепецк ) is a city and administrative center of the homonymous Rajons in the Kirov Oblast in Russia. It has 80 921 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ), and lies at the mouth of the river Tschepza in the Vyatka, about 30 km south-east of the regional capital of Kirov.

History

The first village as a precursor of the present-day city was Ust- Tschepza, ie literally " Tschepza estuary ". This place was founded in the 15th century by settlers from the Republic of Novgorod. Until the early 20th century it remained a largely insignificant village with far less than 1000 inhabitants.

The present city only began to form in the 1930s. 1935 started near the village, construction of a large thermal power station, which should provide the Oblasthauptstadt Kirov with electricity. The workers settlement, which was created during the construction of the power plant, was named Kirovo - Tschepezk and on 28 March 1955 city status. 1960 Kirovo - Tschepezk center of the homonymous Rajons within the Kirov Oblast.

Economy and Transport

Most prominent among industrial firms in the city is the Chemical Combine, in which, among other things, ammonium nitrate, nitric acid, and monomers are created for the production of plastics.
