Kirzhach

Kirschatsch (Russian Киржач ) is a town in Vladimir Oblast (Russia) with 29,965 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 125 km west of the Oblasthauptstadt Vladimir on Kirschatsch, a left tributary of the Klyazma in the river system of the Volga.

Kirschatsch is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

The town was founded as an artisan and trade settlement ( Sloboda ) was a company established in the 14th century monastery ( according to various sources in 1332 on the instructions of the Moscow Prince Ivan Danilovich, or by Sergius of Radonezh ). The name derives from the homonymous river, derived from the word for Mordvinian left ( Moksha кяржи / kjarschi; ersjanisch керш / Kersch ).

The original monastery was closed in 1764; 1778 Kirschatsch received its town charter.

In the 19th century, the city of silk weaving and wood carving was known.

Culture and sights

In the city a number of buildings from the 16th to the 17th century is preserved, including the ensemble of the Annunciation Monastery ( Благовещенский монастырь / Blagoveshchensky monastyr ) with Annunciation Cathedral ( Благовещенский собор / Blagoveshchensky Sobor ) and the Church of the Redeemer ( Спасская церковь / Spasskaya Tserkov ) of 1656.

Kirschatsch has a Historical and Art Museum.

At the village Nowosjolowo, about 20 kilometers from Kirschatsch 1975 an obelisk was erected on the spot where the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and his flight trainer Vladimir Serjogin 1968 fatally injured in a MiG -15.

Economy and infrastructure

In Kirschatsch is a product of Turkish Arçelik A.Ş. for household appliances ( washing machines) and consumer electronics ( TV ), a work for car electrics, companies in the textile, food and furniture industries.

The town lies on the railway line Alexandrov / Strunino - Orechowo - Zuyevo, the northeastern part of the Great Moscow railway ring.
