Kologriv

Kologriw (Russian Кологрив ) is a small town in Russia's Kostroma Oblast with 3314 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 340 kilometers northeast of the Oblasthauptstadt Kostroma on the left bank of the Unscha, a left tributary of the Volga.

Kologriw is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

The city is located 80 kilometers north of Manturowo located on the main line, which opened on this section 1906 Trans-Siberian Railway ( Route 651 km from Moscow).

History

At the beginning of the 17th century a town Kologriw at the Unscha was first mentioned. People Linguistically designated Kologriw a stallion with a dense mane (see also coat of arms ), but the more precise etymology of the city's name is unclear. The old city Kologriw was later abandoned; in its place was built the village Archangelskoje.

At the foundation of the governorship Kostroma 1778 Kitschino village, 40 kilometers downstream as the administrative center of a circle ( Ujesds ) was determined and was renamed in memory of the old city in Kologriw.

At times, the name form Kologriwow was used.
