Lima (Region)

The Lima Region (Spanish: Región de Lima or Departamento de Lima) is a region in central Peru. Your provisional capital is Huacho.

Geography

The region covers the Pacific coast around the Peruvian capital, Lima, but is not itself part of the region, and the adjacent part of the central Peruvian Andes.

The mountainous landscape brings forth some mountains over 4,000 meters. The highest mountain is the Morococha with 5,182 meters.

Off the coast are numerous islands, the largest of which are San Lorenzo, Fronton, Pachacamac, Corcovado and Asia.

History

The region was founded in 2002, as with the introduction of self-government of the Regions, the then Department of Lima, whose capital was the city of Lima, in the three regions of Metropolitan Lima, Callao and Lima Provincias was divided. Provisional Huacho was chosen as the capital of the new region.
