Montevago

Montevago is a city in the province of Agrigento in the Italian region Sicily.

Location and data

Montevago is located 106 km northwest of Agrigento. Here live 2964 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012), who mainly work in agriculture and sheep farming.

The neighboring municipalities are Castelvetrano ( TP), Sciacca, Part Anna ( TP), Salaparuta (TP) and Santa Margherita di Belice.

History

Montevago was founded in 1636 by Rutilio Xirotta. The earthquake in 1968, the town was destroyed. Montevago was then rebuilt in the style of the time.
