Nals

Nals (Italian: Nalles ) is a municipality in South Tyrol (Italy), 1830 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 16 km south of the spa town of Merano and 14 km north of the city of Bolzano. Nals is the southernmost municipality of Burggrafenamt. The municipality bears the epithet wine village and rose village.

Geography

Location

The village is located on the right side of the Adige Valley. The municipal area is at an altitude of about 300 - 1000 m above sea level populated. On the slopes of the valley west of the district Sirmian, with its hamlets, which are accessible via a mountain road.

Waters

The Höhlental, Prissianer, Grissianerbach and the Adige form also in large part the village boundaries. History

In Nals silver was mined in two mines. Nals lay on the Via Claudia Augusta. This is demonstrated by the foundations of a Roman house discovered in autumn 2005. The excavations are underway since the spring of 2006. According to preliminary estimates by experts, it is a building that was inhabited in the 6th or 7th century AD. The house had a floor heating. Warm air was passed through a double bottom. The house was also equipped with a Roman bath complex. Furthermore, an apse was discovered at the northern end of an intact grave was uncovered with the skeleton of an approximately 20 - year-old woman. As grave goods, among other earrings and a string of glass beads were found.

The lower part of the steeple of the parish church of St. Ulrich is over 700 years old. Further remains were discovered under the church (today by a marble slab accessible ) in the restoration of the parish church in the 90s. These notes show that Nals was settled in the 13th century.

Economy

Nals lives mainly from agriculture and from summer tourism.

Wine

Nals may officially call Nals on the South Tyrolean Wine Road. Viticulture has a very long tradition in the village. Only in Narls own vine Heiligenpergl is grown. There are two wineries: the Schlosskellerei swan castle and winery cooperative Nals / Magrè / Entiklar. The winery cooperative could achieve this primarily by their merger with the Lowlands ( south of South Tyrol ) Winery Magrè / Entiklar a qualitative leap in their wines. The Schlosskellerei swan castle was first mentioned in 1286 and is the oldest private winery in South Tyrol.

Fruit-growing

In agriculture, fruit growing, almost exclusively apple production, an important economic factor. The fruit cooperative has teamed up with a Bolzano cooperative to Frubona few years ago. Chance of asparagus and, in the fraction Sirmian, strawberries and mountain artichokes are grown.

Special

The Tisner fraction Schernag is directly connected by a bridge to Nals and there are no motorable access Tisens from. The inhabitants of this group see themselves as Nalser because their village life takes place in Nals. There are regular attempts to connect this fraction to Nals because bureaucratic advantages would accrue to residents. Until now, that is not successful.
