Nebula Award

The Nebula Award is since 1965 by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Inc. ( SFWA ) prize awarded for the best science fiction stories that were published in the two previous years in the United States. 2009, the rules were changed so that only publications from the vorausgegangenem year are selectable.

Technical Notes

  • Title of the short fiction ( novella, novelette, short story) cataloged works (as is often the case for distinguishing homonymous anthologies, anthologies, collections and novels ) included "ordinary" in quotation marks and not in addition italics.
  • There are exceptions for stories that were published as a single book and already are so long that there is no danger that they will be expanded to the novel ( as specified in the Locus Index to SF Awards).
  • Although the screenplay category was introduced in 1999, there were already 1973 to 1977 a total of four times to an award of a film ( see below).

Best Novel ( Best Novel )

This category includes plants with a length of 40,000 or more words.

Best Novella (best novelette )

This category includes plants with a length of 17500-40000 words.

Best Novelette ( best story )

The category includes plants with a length 7500-17500 words.

Best Short Story ( Best Short Story )

The category includes works up to a length of 7,500 words.

Best Script ( Best Screenplay )

This category, there are officially only since 1999. During the seventies but some films were nevertheless already been awarded. The award was given in 1973 Stanley R. Greenberg for the screenplay of Soylent Green, and in 1974 Woody Allen for his film Sleeper ( both under the heading Dramatic Presentation ). In 1976 there were the Dramatic Writing section with the winners Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder for the film Young Frankenstein. Star Wars was a 1977 Special Award.
