The Olympus E-620 is a digital E-System SLR from Olympus. It is based on the Four Thirds Standard. With the E -620, Olympus has for the first time brought out a digital SLR entry-level, uses the features of the professional Olympus E -3 and Olympus E-30. These include a fully swiveling display, creative programs with art filters (like the E-30 ), an integrated image stabilizer, as well as the possibility of using an additional battery grip with horizontal shutter ( HLD -5). The E-620 is also the first DSLR camera that has the backlit buttons for operation in the dark. The E-620 uses the same sensor as the semi-professional e- 30th The E-620 Olympus competes with, also released in spring 2009 models such as the Nikon D5000 and the Canon EOS 500D. It was introduced on 24 February 2009 and has been available since April 2009.

Innovations

The E- 620 has compared to its smaller sister E- 420 and the slightly larger E-520 on numerous significant innovations.

The resolution of the CMOS image sensor is 12.3 megapixels ( E-420 and E-520 10 MP), for image processing, the camera with the newer TruePic III processor is equipped, the first time was used in the E-30 and a color depth of 12 bits per channel reaches in image signal processing. Continuous shooting can be made with up to 4 frames per second, with the internal buffer memory 7 RAW or unlimited Large -JPEG capture images. The autofocus is based on the module of the E-3 and has 7 auto focus fields with 5 double - cross type sensors. The brighter Hypercristall III LCD is a first time offered in the E-System entry level folding and swiveling display with a diagonal of 2.7 inches, the resolution, however, remains at 230,000 pixels. The controls for the left rear side in the 4xx and 5xx models had to be moved by the change on the LCD and are now mostly on the right rear panel. A new element that occurs for the first time in a DSLR and therefore is currently unique feature of the E-620 are backlit buttons, to facilitate the operation in the dark.

The E-620 has in contrast to previous models also faster Live View autofocus. This enables the display of the current receiving area on the LCD - like usual of compact digital cameras - and the ability to display multiple exposures directly. The E-620 also takes on the familiar from the E-30 6 art filters: Pop Art, Soft Focus, light tone, pale color, Grainy B / W film, pinhole camera. The E-620 uses the known from the E -4xx series Bls -1 Li- Ion battery, making it the series 4xx related in size, but has a built-in image stabilizer and sits with it and the other characteristics such product lineup of the e- system between the E-520 and E - 30th It is, according to Olympus with Date the smallest DSLR with built-in image stabilizer.
