Ondřej Pavelec

Ondřej Pavelec ( born August 31, 1987 in Kladno, Czechoslovakia) is a Czech professional ice hockey goaltender who stands since July 2011 the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Pavelec was selected in the first round in eleventh position of the CHL Import Draft in 2005 by the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and during the NHL Entry Draft in 2005 in the second round as the 41st player overall by the Atlanta Thrashers. The Czech was appointed in his two years with the Eagles in each of the QMJHL First All -Star Team. He also won the Trophée Jacques Plante as a goalkeeper with the fewest goals against per game in 2006 and 2007. He was only the fourth player to have managed this twice in a row. He also won the Trophée Raymond Lagacé and Coupe RDS, which is awarded to the best defensive rookie and the best rookie of the year.

In summer 2007, Pavelec received a professional contract with the Atlanta Thrashers. After he ordered two games for the farm team of the Thrashers from the American Hockey League, the Chicago Wolves had graduated, Pavelec was due to an injury by Kari Lehtonen in the NHL Atlanta squad. On 20 October 2007 he made ​​his debut in the National Hockey League for the Thrashers. In his first season for Atlanta, he came on seven missions and won in 2008 with the Chicago Wolves to the Calder Cup.

At the Junior World Championship 2005 Pavelec finished with the U18 national team of the Czech Republic in fourth place. Two years later, at the U20 World Cup 2007 Pavelec was goalkeeper of the Czech Under-20 selection, finished fifth in the tournament.
