Overton County, Tennessee

Overton County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Livingston.

Geography

The County is located north-east of the geographic center of Tennessee, is located in the north about 25 miles from Kentucky and has an area of 1126 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Pickett County, Fentress County, Putnam County, Jackson County and Clay County.

History

Overton County was formed on September 11, 1806 from parts of Jackson Vounty. It was named for John Overton, one of the founders of Memphis, Tennessee.

According to the census in 2000, lived in Overton County 20,118 people in 8,110 households and 5,920 families. The population density was 18 people per square kilometer.
