Palmetto Bay is a municipality in Miami -Dade County in the U.S. state of Florida with 23 410 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Palmetto Bay is located 12 km south-west of Miami on Biscayne Bay. Adjacent municipalities are Coral Gables, Pinecrest and Cutler Bay.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 23 410 inhabitants distributed to 8,372 households. The population density was 1040.4 inh. / Km ². 84.9 % of the population were white, 6.2% African American, 0.1% Native American and 4.5 % Asian Americans. 2.1% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.1% in different ethnic groups. 38.6 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 25.2 % of all households lived in 43.2 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 82.5 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.95 persons and the average family size was 3.25 persons.

29.2% of the population were younger than 20 years, 18.2% were 20-39 years old, 34.8 % were 40-59 years old and 17.8 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 42 years. 48.5 % of the population were male and 51.5 % female.

The average annual income was $ 106,017, while 6.4 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

Traffic

The municipal area is affected in the west by U.S. Highway 1 (SR 5). The Miami International Airport is about 20 km north of Palmetto Bay.
