Peter Myndert Dox

Peter Myndert Dox ( born September 11, 1813 in Geneva, Ontario County, New York, † April 2, 1891 in Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama) was an American lawyer, judge and politician ( Democratic Party). He was the grandson of U.S. Representative John Nicholas.

Career

Peter Myndert Dox attended the Geneva Academy and graduated in 1833 at Hobart College in Geneva. He studied law, was admitted to the bar and then began in Geneva on practicing. Dox also pursued a political career. He was in 1842 a member of the New York State Assembly. Then he was from November 1855 until his resignation on March 18, 1856 Judge of the Ontario County Court He then moved to Alabama in the same year, where he settled in Madison County. There he went to agricultural activities. It also adopted in 1865 as a delegate to participate in the Constituent Assembly of Alabama. Dox was then elected to the 41st U.S. Congress and re-elected in the following 42 U.S. Congress. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives on 4 March 1869 to 3 March 1873. After he retired from public life. He died in 1891 in Huntsville (Alabama ) and was buried there on the Maple Hill Cemetery.
