Riervescemont

Riervescemont ( formerly Upper German Wessenberg ) is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Riervescemont located at 600 meters above sea level, five kilometers north-east of Giromagny and about 15 kilometers north of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The scattered settlement community extends into the southern Vosges, at the headwaters of the Rosemontoise, at the southern foot of the Tremontkopfes.

The area of ​​8.52 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the Southern Vosges. The strong in relief and predominantly forested area is located in the headwaters of the Rosemontoise. Several rivers in deep valleys unite to Rosemontoise, which leaves the area through the narrow valley at the Château de Rosemont ( southwestern border). The Tête du Mineur in the southeast (928 m ) in the north of Tremontkopf (used with 1091 m reached at the highest elevation of Riervescemont ) and in the west of Mont Rouchon ( 976 m): In addition, the municipal boundary runs along the surrounding mountain ranges. These mountains form the southern foothills of the Ballon d'Alsace. The municipality is located in the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges.

Neighboring communities of Riervescemont are Sewen and Dolleren in the north, Lamadeleine -Val -des- Anges in the east, the south and Vescemont Lepuix in the West.

History

In today's municipality of Riervescemont the counts of Montbéliard founded the Rosemont Castle ( German Rosenfels ) in the 11th century. She was the center of the rule Rosemont, a major, comprehensive the whole north of the Territoire de Belfort with the time rule. Mid-14th century it came under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. Together with the Sundgau the area came with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Only in the year 1698, the name Riervescemont is first mentioned. Since 1793, the settlement belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France. Today Riervescemont is affiliated with 13 other municipalities for municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays Sous- Vosgien.

Attractions

On a ledge above the gorge of the Rosemontoise the ruins of the medieval castle Rosemont raise.

Population

With 101 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Riervescemont is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 174 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Riervescemont was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located far away from the major road links. The only entrance is from Giromagny.
