The Rif is a big high sand in the Wadden Sea to the North Sea near Schiermonnikoog.

The sandbar is about 1.5 meters above sea level, this is dune formation for some years. The island is formed by the damming of the Lauwers Sea in 1969. Thereby less water comes through the tidal inlet between Ameland and Schiermonnikoog, which leads to siltation. Thus, the west beach of Schiermonnikoog was larger and there was a sandbar, this was called The Reef. In the 1990s it was a desert sand plate without vegetation. In 2004, the Queller has established itself in some areas. In 2012, the Gatt sanded between the Engelsmanplaat and Rif, the middle of the dunes on the island was estimated at 2.3 meters.

The sandbar serves as a breeding area. The entry is in the breeding season, from May to August prohibited. The island is also a popular resting place for seals.
