Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hartford

Located in the U.S. Archdiocese Hartford (Latin: Archidioecesis Hartfortiensis ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic church located in Hartford, Connecticut.

History

It was taken out of the Archdiocese of Boston on November 28, 1843 and was subject to this future suffragan. On February 16, 1872, the 5004 km ² large diocese was in conjunction with the Archdiocese of Boston from areas of the newly formed Diocese of Providence.

After two areas had been made into a diocese of Bridgeport Diocese of Norwich and as from the diocesan territory on August 6, 1953 Hartford was elevated to an archdiocese and metropolitan diocese the bishoprics of Bridgeport, Norwich and Providence.

Abuse cases

2005 22 million were paid U.S. dollars to settle the claims of 43 victims who were abused by 14 priests. Furthermore, processes in the case of the offender George Reardon are pending, who worked as a doctor in a hospital supported by the diocese.
