Roman Catholic Diocese of Jackson

The Diocese of Jackson (Latin: Dioecesis Jacksoniensis ) is a located in the United States Roman Catholic diocese based in Jackson, Mississippi.

History

The Diocese of Jackson was born on July 18, 1826 by Pope Leo XII. built with the Apostolic Constitution Inter multiplices of cessions of territory of the Diocese of Louisiana and the two Floridas as Apostolic Vicariate of Mississippi. The Apostolic Vicariate of Mississippi was founded on July 28, 1837 by Pope Gregory XVI. raised to the bishopric and renamed diocese Natchez. It was placed under the Archdiocese of New Orleans, suffragan on 19 July 1850. The Diocese of Natchez was renamed on 18 December 1956 in Diocese of Natchez -Jackson. On March 1, 1977, the Diocese of Natchez -Jackson were parts of its territory from the foundation of the diocese Biloxi. The Diocese of Natchez -Jackson was renamed on 1 March 1977 in Diocese of Jackson. On July 29, 1980, the Diocese of Jackson was placed under the Archdiocese of Mobile, suffragan.
