History

In the Ladin Museum at Schloss Thurn the history of the Ladin culture is presented, according to which the origin of the village of St. Martin can be returned in accordance with assumptions Lois Craffonara up to the Roman period.

The Romans had a standardized Infrastructure Plan for the kind of three times three, a total of nine squares for rural settlements. Since the measure of the great nine smaller squares by archaeological finds from other places ago known, one can check whether about Sankt Martin in Thurn was originally built pursuant to such plan. Allegedly seen from a bird's perspective, the individual paths as well as some distinctive points of Sankt Martin assign such a square pattern. However, this is complicated by the fact that this alleged pattern square was destroyed in medieval times by a landslide a part. The term " Quadra " for this corridor division will initially have been used as the name of the settlement, and finally for the whole Val Badia; therefore get the modern name " Gader ," formerly " Kaidra " of a pattern according to the Roman settlement created here, so at least this theory. St. Martin belonged to the end of the First World War for the judicial district Enneberg and was part of the district Brunico.

In 1930 Campill ( Ladin Lungiarü ) was used together with Wengen connected to St. Martin in Thurn and Rina ( Rina ) at Enneberg. While Wengen from 1965 formed a separate municipality Campill remained at St. Martin in Thurn.
