Senigallia

Senigallia ( also Sinigallia ) is Located on the Adriatic town and a seaside resort in the Italian province of Ancona.

Senigallia has 44,888 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) who live in an area of 115 km ².

History

In ancient Sena, which originally belonged to Umbria, was a major site of immigrants to northern Italy Celtic ( Gaulish ) senones. After their subjugation by Rome, the place was 283 BC a Roman colony and was due to its location in the ager Gallicus also the name of Sena Gallica or Senagallia.

In the early Middle Ages Senigallia belonged to the Pentapolis. In the 15th to 19th centuries, it was a much-visited exhibition center.

In Senigallia a gold medallion was found, which is the only surviving contemporary portrait of the Ostrogoths King Theodoric the Great.
