Sokolovce
Sokolovce ( Sockolowetz German, Hungarian Vágszakály - to 1907 Szokolóc ) is a municipality in western Slovakia with 1272 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Piešťany, part of Trnavský kraj.
Geography
The municipality is located on the left bank of the Vah below the western slope of Považský Inovec. The center is located at an altitude of 154 m nm and is seven kilometers from Piešťany and 12 kilometers from Hlohovecký.
History
The town was first mentioned in 1293 as Zokol writing and was named after the original inhabitants, the royal falconers. 1332 a parish is mentioned, but later went down and long belonged to the parish of Ardanovce. The village belonged to the local nobles. 1828 are listed 57 houses and 399 inhabitants. The main source of income was and is agriculture, viticulture was significantly earlier in the 19th century brick making was widespread. Today part of the population commutes to work.
Until 1918, belonged to the lying in the county Neutra place the Kingdom of Hungary and came after Czechoslovakia and Slovakia today.
