St. Lorenzen

San Lorenzo (Italian San Lorenzo di Sebato ), the Roman Sebatum, is a market town with 3785 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Val Pusteria in South Tyrol (Italy ) and is situated at the confluence of Rienz and Gader.

Montal, Ellen and Onach were independent communities until 1928, then the market town of St. Lorenz were incorporated. Webs came time for Brunico community.

Geography

The 51.50 km ² large area of the municipal district of San Lorenzo extends over parts of the Val Pusteria - including the western edge of the Brunecker widening, in the nearby town of Brunico expands - and the lower Val Badia and the surrounding mountain areas. In Pusteria the municipality is crossed by the Rienz in East-West direction, the Gader flows through the town up to its confluence with the Rienz in south-north direction. Sebatum

Church

The parish church is one of the oldest churches in Val Pusteria. It was first mentioned in the 11th century. The first church building, however, is already dated to the late 4th or early 5th century. The parish church of St. Lawrence, as it presents itself today, is the result of numerous extensions, additions and changes, from the Middle Ages to the recent time. With its two unequal towers it shapes the image of the village. The massive Gothic tower was completed according to an inscription 1454. The clock tower dates from 1541. The small tower is with its pointed arch windows, a subsequent increase. The lower part, where, during a restoration in 1988, the Romanesque acoustic window were uncovered, probably dates from the 13th century and may have been attached to a side chapel of the oldest part of the church. As a valuable work of art, the Madonna with the Child applies to the grape, which is located near the left side of the altar. This is the remainder of a carved from Brunecker sculptor Michael Pacher altarpiece in 1460. Museum mansio Sebatum

The museum opened in 2011, mansio Sebatum in St. Lorenzen is the only museum in South Tyrol, which is entirely dedicated to the Roman period.
