Telecom New Zealand

The Telecom New Zealand, based in Auckland and Wellington has about 8500 employees and a turnover of about 2.8 billion euros (2008) one of the largest mobile and telecommunications companies in New Zealand and Australia. The company is the largest by market capitalization on the New Zealand Exchange (and thus also in the Forbes Global 2000 list included). In addition to the NZX shares are also traded on the ASX and the NYSE. The Telecom New Zealand is listed in the All Ordinaries Index 50 and the NZX.

Main business areas are fixed and mobile telecommunications, including all related services. The wholly owned subsidiary Xtra Limited is responsible for the Internet business and the largest Internet service provider in New Zealand.

The company is divided operationally since 2008 in the three areas:

  • Telecom Retail
  • Telecom Wholesale
  • Chorus (responsible for the internet business)

The market share in the mobile phone business in 2007 is approximately 49 %. 1999 or this was just under 70%. The decline of the business can be seen by its competitor Vodafone, which occurred in the late 1990s as Vodafone New Zealand in the market.
