Tutow

Tutow is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern - Greifswald. Until 1 January 2004, the municipality was the seat of the Office Tutow and has since become part of the Office Jarman - Tutow.

Geography and transport

Tutow is located about eight kilometers west of Jarman and about 16 kilometers east of Demmin. The cuckoo ditch flows to the municipal boundary in the direction of the located north of Tutow Peene. The small municipal area is characterized by the Tutower airfield. Due to this is the artificial Casinosee. Chance exist small areas of forest. Federal highway 110 runs along the southeastern boundary of the municipality. The place can be reached via the connection Jarman of Highway 20.

History

The area around the site was inhabited in the Stone Age, it generates a large stone grave with Marie Felde. South of the B 110 is a old Slavic castle wall with an area of about two acres, the "Old City ". To the west there is a jungslawischer Castle Wall, the " Alte Schanze ", generally known as " Wallenberg ". This is in an inaccessible swamp, the " Quebbe ", which is fed by the cuckoo ditch. Well in the 13th century, the younger attachment has been destroyed. At the same time came near the places Kruckow and Tutow (now Tutow village).

The current location Tutow itself emerged only in the 1930s as a settlement during the construction of the airfield. The former Kruckower Vorwerk Wittenweier was demolished in 1933 during the construction of the airfield Tutow. On 1 October 1938, the site was officially named the Tutow / airport. Before and during the Second World War here a fighter squadron was stationed. Here was also one of the greatest fighter pilot schools of the German Reich. In a branch office of the Arado -Werke, the Fw 190 final assembly in Tutow.

After the war the Fluplatzgebäude of the Soviet Army were mostly demolished, however, used the airfield from the NVA and the Soviet Army. The NVA had stationed paratrooper in Tutow. From 1985, the airfield was used by the Soviet army alone. In 1986, the construction of homes, a school and other social and functional building before a battle Aviation Regiment from the Cottbus area was stationed here. In 1994 the last soldiers of the GSFG left the garrison. Subsequently, the municipality took over the formerly used for military purposes plate section of the Trust and offered the apartments to low. Thus, the population grew from 1,300 inhabitants in 1993 to approximately 2,250 in 1994. Since the population is increasing due to high unemployment (up to 70 %) continuously. Some of the resulting vacant slab of formerly used by the military area were dismantled with funding from federal and state governments.

In an unfinished multi-purpose building directly on the B 110, which was planned as a hotel and café, cinema, 1946 a cannery was established. This was expropriated in 1952 and was from 1974 the name "VEB Northern Fruit". In addition to fruit and vegetables will also mustard paste was produced. The produced before nationalization in Loitz mustard was known locally as " Tutower mustard ". After the fall of the canning factory was privatized and changed hands several times. Finally, the production was relocated to Stavenhagen and the factory closed. The mustard but will continue to be offered under the brand " Tutower mustard ".

In the former cannery in 2010 drew a Tutow the GDR Museum, which was located on the edge of the airfield before.

Designated commercial areas were taken out of the development plan due to lack of demand. The local discount store closed in January 2006, savings bank and butcher shops have been closed for several years. In the school year 2005/2006 the Tutower elementary and secondary school was, so as to keep to a branch of the Jarmener school location.
