Tutow

Tutow is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern - Greifswald. Until 1 January 2004, the municipality was the seat of the Office Tutow and has since become part of the Office Jarman - Tutow.

Geography and transport

Tutow is located about eight kilometers west of Jarman and about 16 kilometers east of Demmin. The cuckoo ditch flows to the municipal boundary in the direction of the located north of Tutow Peene. The small municipal area is characterized by the Tutower airfield. Due to this is the artificial Casinosee. Chance exist small areas of forest. History

The area around the site was inhabited in the Stone Age, it generates a large stone grave with Marie Felde. South of the B 110 is a old Slavic castle wall with an area of ​​about two acres, the "Old City ". To the west there is a jungslawischer Castle Wall, the " Alte Schanze ", generally known as " Wallenberg ". This is in an inaccessible swamp, the " Quebbe ", which is fed by the cuckoo ditch. The current location Tutow itself emerged only in the 1930s as a settlement during the construction of the airfield. The former Kruckower Vorwerk Wittenweier was demolished in 1933 during the construction of the airfield Tutow. On 1 October 1938, the site was officially named the Tutow / airport. Before and during the Second World War here a fighter squadron was stationed. Here was also one of the greatest fighter pilot schools of the German Reich.
