Verpillières

Verpillières is a rural, commune of 160 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. It belongs to the canton of Roye in the arrondissement of Montdidier.

Geography

Verpillières is located in northern France, at the southern edge of the Somme, 96 kilometers northeast of Paris, 28 kilometers north of Compiègne and about 20 kilometers east of Montdidier, the capital of the eponymous arrondissement. Neighboring communities of Verpillières are Carrépuis the northwest, Roiglise in the Northeast, the South and Amy Crapeaumesnil in the southwest. The municipality covers 487 hectares, the average height is 80 meters above sea level, the Mairie stands at a height of 82 meters. The Avre clips the eastern boundary of the municipality.

History

Verpillières was first mentioned in documents as Velpillieur 1167.

In the ancien régime, from the Middle Ages to the French Revolution (1789-1799) was divided into several fiefs the Seigneurie Verpillières. In 1586 there were five fief.

The French Revolution ended the feudal system, organized the new towns and introduced a regular census. 1793 received Verpillières under the name Verpilliers the status of a municipality and 1801 by the administrative reform under Napoleon Bonaparte ( 1769-1821) under the present name, the right to local self-government. 1793 the village had 203 inhabitants. In the First World War (1914-1918) the castle of Verpillières was destroyed.

Attractions

The church Saint -Martin was re- built in the 18th century. In the church there is a baptismal font from the 16th century, which was classified in 1907 as a monument historique ( historic monument ').
