Viru-Nigula Parish

Viru Nigula (German Maholm ) is a rural municipality in the Estonian Lääne- Viru with an area of ​​234.05 km ² and has 1418 inhabitants (1 January 2006).

In addition to the main town of Viru - Nigula ( 381 inhabitants), the parish includes the villages Aasukalda, Iila, Kabeli küla, Kaliküla, Kanguristi, Kiviküla, Koila, Kunda küla, Qurna, Kutsala, Kuura, Letipea, Linnuse, Mahu, Malla, Marinu, Metsavälja, Nugeri, Ojaküla, Paasküla, Pada, Pada Aruküla, Pikaristi, Pärna, Samma, Selja, Siberi küla, Simunamäe, Toomika, Tüükri, Unukse, Varudi, Vasta and Võrkla.

About 0.5 kilometers east of Viru - Nigula are the ruins of a chapel from the 13th century. It was probably built on the site of the battle in which on 18 February 1268 collided Russians, Danes and German.

The Church of Viru - Nigula with its medieval tower dates from the 14th century. It was heavily remodeled in 1901.
