Winnebago County (Wisconsin)

The Winnebago County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. In 2010, the County had 166 994 inhabitants and a population density of 147 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Oshkosh, which was named after an Indian chief of the Menominee.

Geography

The County is located in Eastern Wisconsin and has an area of 1499 square kilometers, of which 363 square kilometers are water surface. In Winnebago County, the upper portion of the Fox River empties into Lake Winnebago.

History

The Winnebago County was formed in 1840 as an original county from parts of the Wisconsin Territory. It was named after the indigenous people of the Winnebago.

Population

According to the census in 2010 lived in Winnebago County 166 994 people in 67 232 households. The population density was 147 people per square kilometer. In the 67 232 households lived statistically 2.35 per person.
