Zagwiździe

Friedrich Thal, Polish: Zagwiździe, is a town in Upper Silesia in the community Murow in powiat Opolski in the Opole Voivodeship.

Geographical Location

Friedrich Thal is one kilometer northeast of the municipal center Murow and 25 kilometers north of the county town of Opole voivodship and ( Opole ). By Friedrich valley of Budkowitzer stream that widens to the hut in the village pond and from the branches, a channel flows.

Neighboring towns of Frederick valley are in the north Zedlitz ( Grabice ), to the east of the hamlet Morczinek ( Morcinek ) and old Budkowitz (Stare Budkowice ) and to the west Murow ( Murów ).

History

The settlement Friedrichsthal built in the first half of the 18th century. 1755 lived in the village of 24 families, of which 17 came from the area, two of Saxony and one from Austria and four families were Hussites. Originally there was north of the village of Thal Friedrich Kreuzburger Hut ( older spellings: Creutz Burger Hut or Creuzburgerhütte ), named after the town of Cross Castle. Cross Burger Hut is now part of the town Friedrichsthal.

1784 a Catholic school was founded. In 1865 the town had 48 colonies and 72 smallholdings.

In the referendum on March 20, 1921 926 voters voted to remain in Germany and 211 for Poland. Friedrich Thal remained with the German Reich. By 1945, the place was in the district of Opole.

In 1945 joined the German town previously under Polish administration and the Silesian Voivodeship. For December 16, 1946 the town was renamed in Zagwiździe. 1950 Zagwiździe part of the Opole Voivodeship and 1999 of the re-established powiat Opolski. In March 2009, the City also received the official German place names Friedrichsthal.

  • Botanical Garden - created in 2006 and has a large number of rhododendrons.
  • Modern Catholic Church - Built in the years 1920-1921 with influences of the Italian Renaissance. Consecrated on 8 October 1932.
